I cut the plants off from the previous season at soil level, leaving their roots in the pot. In the past, when I pulled out the roots, I found my cuttings weren't as stable on breezy days. The oversized ornaments I place on the end of sticks I find laying around and then stick the other end in the soil. I will confess the berries are faux. Up close, they don't look very realistic but they are made for outdoor use so I have used them for several years. I bought them at a Kmart Liquidation Sale years ago. (I also bought an above-the-ground pool my nephews tease me about because I placed it in the front yard for a few days two summers ago).
Sometimes I have to replace a few items if they start looking too brown, but for the most part, with a little rain and cool weather, they look beautiful thru the holidays.
